THE MASJID AL-HARAM IN MECCA
53 x 37 cms. on card, a faint vertical crease in the centre of the image,
By the 19th Century there were only two accounts of Medina and Mecca those of Joseph Pitts whose account was published in 1704, and Richard Burton's account published in 1855. Photographic images were beginning to be seen by this time in the west of distant view of the Ka'bah, but pictures of this type were strictly for Believers and Pilgrims to the shrine.
