BURTON (CAPT.SIR RICHARD FRANCIS [1821-1890]) Fine Autograph Letter Signed to Monsieur Isidor Lesley  telling him that as he is "about to leave London I dare not keep the MSS of Count de Castierè (?) any longer and I send it to your direction by Post Office registered. I am most grateful to the owner who has had the generosity to entrust a stranger with his valuable manuscript ..." asking him to pass on the enclosed card. " When passing through Paris this autumn I hope that you will give me a short interview. Meanwhile I am most desirous of obtaining a complete copy of the Jardin in Arabia and perhaps you would have the goodness to suggest me some means of action ...",  6th October, 1866

At this stage of his life, Burton was Consul in Santos Brazil and been reunited with his wife Isabel. He had written Abeokuta in 1863 and Mission to Gelele in 1864, while he was in Fernando Po of the coast of West Africa. Whilst in Brazil he wrote Highlands of Brazil 1869 and Battlefield of Paraguay in 1870. He was appointed Consul to Damascus in 1868.
