Royal Asiatic Society Library Stamp on title, and Honingham Hall on the front free endpaper, 508 pp. 8vo. boards, cloth spine,
The first part or Precis outlines the History of China from 1982 BC to 1912 AD. There is a Biographical Index of 4000 of men "celebrated for divers reasons", and a Bibliographical Index of 1000 of "fundamental" works of Chinese Literature. Honingham Hall was bought by Sir Eric Teichman in 1935. Teichman, 1884-1944, Diplomat and Orientalist, has been described as "one of British diplomacy's dashing characters, flamboyantly enigmatic explorer-cum-special agent. He went on a number of special missions and fact-finding journeys throughout Central Asia, before World War I". At the time of his death, Sir Eric had been serving as adviser to the British Embassy at Chungking.
