GOREE. A Clerk Written Letter to "Major Chisolm" acknowledging receipts of money,  "I have sincere pleasure in acquainting you that the French Government have issued an order prohibiting the Slave Trade to their subjects at all places on the Coast of Africa to the windward of Cape Formosa so that I trust the fears we entertained of the complete overthrow of all the good that has been done in Africa will prove premature..." signed L. Macauley,  Nov. 1814
1 side 4to. folded, marginal tears,
Goree, a small island of the coast of Dakar, was under British protection from 1800 when it was taken from the French, until 1817 when they took the island back. Chisholm appears to have been the last Governor.
