The first edition with the text by Taine came out in Paris in 1855 with just 64 illustrations. The Blackburn revisions first appeared in 1867. He remarks in this issue "Amongst the special additions to this Edition (much of which has been rewritten), are descriptions of Lourdes and Argelès in 1880, and some notes made in spring amongst the flowers."
