Mary Kingsley died of typhoid in the early hours of 3 June 1900, having nursed casualties of the Boer War in South Africa. The additional chapters include her Hibbert Lecture "African Law and Religion", articles on "Property in West Africa" and two lectures delivered at the Liverpool and Imperial Institute on "Imperialism in West Africa".
