CHINA. Three Hand carved Wooden blocks for printing part of a Book of Maxims or Similes  of a warning nature, written in doggerel lines of 5 characters, in line with Daoist and to some extent Buddhist thought, leaves 3-4, 5-6 and 11-12,  19th century,
double-sided 6ΒΌ x 9 ins., bottom edge rule on leaf 12 recto defective, touching 2 characters,
Some of the warnings are "If you damage somebody, you damage yourself", "If you have enmity for someone, you must pay, even if it is the next life", "Going to the casino is like putting money into a hole big enough to catch a horse", "The number one good is to save someone's life". They are written in sets of 10 or 20 characters.
