John Paul Jones, 1747-1792, was a Scot, who from a humble background and through dint of hard work and seamanship became a successful Captain of Privateers. He later emigrated to the United States and was a prominent Naval Fighter in the War of the American Revolution between Great Britain and the American Colonies.
