Galle in Ceylon was first taken by the Portuguese in 1505, and spices, particularly cinnamon, were exported from there to the west. The Dutch took over in 1640 and this pamphlet gives details of an early treaty between the two countries concerning the Spice Trade. Galle is now a World Heritage site with the original fort and fortifications built by the Dutch in 1663.
